According to Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN), "the term 'sexual violence' is an all-encompassing, non-legal term that refers to crimes like sexual assault, rape, and sexual abuse." Sexual assault is one type of sexual violence and is the primary focus of The Syd Project. However, it is also important to be aware of other types of sexual violence. Some individuals use "sexual assault" to describe various types of sexual violence. The specific types of sexual violence, including sexual assault and rape, and their definitions are described below. The definitions of "Sexual Assault" and "Rape" have been sourced from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Although the two terms have similar definitions and are used interchangeably, it is important to know the differences between the two. For more information on this, refer to the video titled "" within the "More Information" section of this page. Upon reading below, if you are unsure if you or someone you know was sexually assaulted, you may take the quiz, which can be found near the bottom of this page.
