    82% of juvenile rape victims and 90% of adult rape victims are female. 

    As of 1998, about 17.7 million American women were the victims of attempted or completed rape. 

    Teenage women ages 16-19 are four times more likely than the regular population to be sexually assaulted or raped.

    Female college students, between the ages of 18-24 are 3 times more likely than the general female population to be sexually assaulted or experience sexual violence. Women in the same age group, who are not enrolled in college, are four times as likely.

    As of 1998, about 2.78 million American men were the victims of attempted or completed rape. 

    1/10 rape victims are male.

    3% or 1/33 men have experienced attempted or completed rape. 

    Long term effects

    94% of women who are raped experience Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the two weeks following their rape. 

    30% of women experience PTSD nine months after being raped. 

    13% of women who have been raped have attempted suicide. 

    33% of women who have been raped have contemplated suicide. 

    70% of victims of sexual assault experience a moderate to severe amount of distress. This percentage is higher than for any other violent crime. 

    Sexual assault survivors are 3.4 times more likely to use marijuana. 

    Sexual assault survivors are six times more likely to use cocaine. 

    Sexual assault survivors are ten times more likely to use other drugs. 

    38% of sexual assault survivors report having problems at work and/or school, including with a boss, coworkers, or peers. 

    37% of sexual assault survivors experience issues with their personal/family life, including increased arguments, feeling more distant, and not being able to trust. 

    84% of people, who have been victimized by a spouse of intimate partner, have experienced emotional and/or professional issues, including distress. 

    79% of people, who have been victimized by someone close to them, (such as a family member, friend, or coworker), have experienced emotional and/or professional issues, including distress. 

    67% of people, who have been victimized by a stranger, have experienced emotional and/or professional issues, including distress.
