Interview with a reader

Interviewer: Sydney (creator of The Syd Project)

Interviewee: Jason, father of Sydney

"The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk"

"The two basic themes were the description of trauma and how it happens and then how to help those suffering deal with it."

"I would say that not only survivors read the book, but everyone. It goes a long way to help those who weren't directly affected understand those who were."

"I liked the in depths studies that were talked about, I think the studies of those with trauma gives credence/evidence to the ideas being talked about."

"I don't think I'd make any changes. There are lots of other books that one can find if they want to go more in-depth into something that was talked about in this book."

"I think the book helped me to understand that trauma can be generational. it's hard for a victim to deal with everything that has happened and that can be passed along to others in their lives, understandably so."

"I think the info on EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) was very interesting and has the potential to really help. I had heard of it before but didn't realize how well it seems to work."

"I haven't read other trauma-specific books, but have read others to help understand myself better. 'Unf*ck Your Brain' 'Come As You Are' 'This is Your Mind on Plants' 'You're Not Listening' are all good books."
